Message From the Dean

Let me first welcome you to this historic Faculty. As you may be aware, Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies is the oldest faculty in this university. A brief history of it has been provided in this website for your information. This Faculty has nurtured and produced eminent personalities for well over five decades. This faculty is a team of dedicated scholars whose study expands the boundaries of our knowledge and whose teaching prepares students for a range of professions and lifelong learning. The first step towards understanding a new environment is the study of its physical and social settings to know how best to adjust and or adapt to its peculiarities. We have therefore produced this site to help fresh students appreciate the way we operate in this Faculty. Admission into this faculty is a privilege. To make the best use of such a rare and golden opportunity, it is the responsibility of every student to know the rules and regulations governing the conduct of actions of every member of the faculty and university. In the light of the above, therefore, we have tried to draw the attention of students to the basic rules and procedures contained in major university documents, such as the Student Handbook being issued to students in the Students Affairs Division of the university. It is the responsibility of every student to fully understand the rules and regulations of this university through this and other organs/committees of the university, to be well guided and ensure good conduct throughout the period of study here. I need to point out one very important point here. In this faculty, we operate as a family and are strictly guided by the established rules, regulations, and procedures contained in this website. Every student admitted into this faculty automatically becomes a member of his departmental students’ association. For example, a student who is admitted into the Department of History automatically becomes a member of the students' Historical Society (SHS). Every department has a student association and every student is expected to actively participate in its activities. The Faculty supports and assists the activities of these associations through the office of the Sub-Dean. The facilities of the Faculty are made available for use by the associations whenever the need arises. Students are also encouraged to lodge their complaints and or offer suggestions on issues/matters affecting their welfare, security, comfort, and academic endeavor through the office of the Sub-Dean. In this faculty, as in other faculties of the university, the administration is run on a committee basis. In other words, all issues are discussed openly, collectively, and democratically. Students should feel free to ask for guidance and or assistance from any of the Faculty Officers. Remember that the motto of this great university is: And above every possessor of knowledge, there is one more learned. I wish you all a pleasant and fruitful stay in this faculty and university. Thank you.
